Catching Up on Old Obsessions and Finding New Ones

I have been writing for work so much lately that I haven’t had much left to say here. I haven’t stopped obsessing about things though, instead I have just been talking the ears off all my friends and strangers that casually mention something I am interested in. This month has been a mix of finding joy in nostalgia and discovering new sources of fascination.

When Magnum PI began, I didn’t yet exist. Like many ladies my age, I fell hard for Tom Selleck’s loveable teddy bear character in Three Men and A Baby and as Monica’s older love interest on Friends. I discovered Magnum PI through re-runs while I was in high school. Earlier this year I tore through season one of Magnum PI on Hulu and was tempted to just go ahead and buy the box set on Amazon when I couldn’t find any other seasons online. Lucky for me it is now on Netflix. Even though it is clearly set in the 80s, it really stands up. You can see similarities between the country recovering from Vietnam and where we are today. Not to mention, you can’t help but enjoy Magnum’s chivalry, extraordinary skills, tiny shorts and of course, the famous mustache.

Singin' in the Rain made a one night only appearance in theaters this month and it was a joy to watch. I couldn’t stop smiling through the whole movie. Watching Gene Kelly move across the screen is a wonder and I have been compulsively singing the music ever since. Moses Supposes and Good Morning are my favorites. Get the soundtrack or buy the 60th anniversary edition of the movie.

I cannot stop listening to Kanye West’s Mercy ever since Aziz Ansari used it as his entrance music at his show. The video is a bit silly and the lyrics make me ashamed to know all of them but who doesn’t want an “ass-state”.

Speaking of my never ending love of rap and Aziz Ansari, big thanks to him for introducing me to the joy of kid rappers: Hot Cheetos and Takis, Lil P-nut’s Bad Dream and his adorable appearances on Ellen.

I subscribed to Birchbox and am loving having new beauty products delivered to my mailbox in adorable packaging each month. I have already discovered some must have items.
