Joys of June

I am finding joy in lots of little things this month. It is officially summer with all its wonder:  street festivals, warm weather, brightly colored sundresses, swimming in the river and tasty fruit. I am trying to adjust to a new work situation. It takes me awhile to adjust to big changes, I have to slowly convince myself that this new thing is just as good or better than my previous situation.

So far my favorite thing about my new car based commute is drinking my iced coffee on the way to work. I am using the Pioneer Woman’s recipe and adding a tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk from Trader Joes. It is the perfect pick me up to start my day.

I love Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen. It is already invading pop culture and will probably have everyone sick of it by the end of the month. If this video of her singing with Jimmy Fallon and the roots does not delight you, your heart may be made of tin.

Speaking of Jimmy Fallon, he looks great as a lady in this Real Housewives of the Late Show video. I was reminded why I loved Will Smith in this great video of the two of them performing as old time radio hosts. The rivalry between Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon continued in a game of bubble soccer (in case you couldn’t already tell I fell in Jimmy Fallon Hulu hole last week).

Ana Tijoux’s album La Bala is one of my favorite music purchases this year and her appearance as guest DJ on the Alt Latino podcast just cemented my adoration of her. The excitement in her voice when she talks about hip hop and jazz is infectious.

Nathan Rabin from The AV Club feels like the voice of my generation when he talks about his relationship to hip hop in the first article in his new series Hip Hop and You Do Stop.
